Welcome to Adventures With Words Young Adult Edition. Once a month, Kate will be going solo to discuss the best of Young Adult fiction, old and new, especially great UKYA.
Don’t worry – your normal podcast will be continuing; you can subscribe to this podcast separately in iTunes if YA is your thing, and you’ll be able to find all the YA Edition podcasts at www.adventureswithwords.com/yaedition
The first episode is a Spooky Launch, because Autumn is a great time for reading about ghosts, ghouls and strange, unusual occurrences. Kate discusses Constable and Toop by Gareth P Jones, Coraline by Neil Gaiman, Under My Hat edited by Jonathan Strahan, The Enemy series by Charlie Higson, and the fantastic Tall Tales From Pitch End by Nigel McDowell.
We’re also thrilled to have an exclusive from author of Tall Tales From Pitch End, Nigel McDowell – he’s recorded a new Tall Tale, The Tall Tale of George Pitch, especially for the podcast.
To win a signed copy of Tall Tales From Pitch End, simply listen to the podcast and follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter below…
We’ve also got a fascinating Q&A interview with Nigel coming up later today on the blog – watch this space!

Episode 1. An Adventures With Words production.
Loved this episode! You’ve convinced me to check out Coraline… and all the other titles you covered!
Hi Sadie, so glad you enjoyed the episode – we’re hoping it should become a regular thing in addition to our normal episodes, it’s even got its own podcast stream on Youtube!
Kate
I’ll definitely check that out! Oh, and I wanted to add: my intro to YA (and a book I adore, at least I did years and years ago when I read it) was I, Coriander by Sally Gardner. That’s my recommended read! 🙂
For Captain George Pitch to give one of his seven sons to her, the old woman with the gems from Diamond Beach… kept me hooked to the end. Have wanted to read Tales From Pitch End for ages and compelled to read it even more so now! Was great to listen on the go – will definitely be following your YA podcasts. Shame I didn’t have Under My Hat already (kids would have loved it for Halloween!) but will definitely be getting it. Have already read/loved Coraline but daughter was a little creeped out by it but maybe not so much now she’s bit older. I don’t really do podcasts but I defo will now – looking forward to more!! Thanks 🙂
