Best bargain: McSweeney’s Anthologies and Oryx and Crake #bookaday

For day 2, our best bargain, Rob has chosen a number of McSweeney’s anthologies and Kate has chosen Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood.

Rob: As a booklover and a bookseller, I was sad to see my local Borders in Norwich close down. Watching a bookshop have its shelves stripped bare is a depressing sight, yet this soon faded as I joined in, clutching the cheap books to my chest. My best bargain was found here when I discovered a collection of half price McSweeney‘s anthologies, brimming with inventive and imaginative stories. All in a variety of shapes and sizes, these were ordinarily quite hard to get hold of and rather pricey for American imports. Here they were all in one place and half price! It’s sad to see what the bookshop has become but on this occasion, Borders I thank you!

Kate: Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood. A lovely hardback edition from my local charity shop, St Helena Hospice. It was the princely sum of £1. Now I just need Maddadam in hardback to complete the trilogy!
