For some people, there’s a particular moment or a particular book that hooks them into reading. For some it’s not as clear cut as that… Rob has chosen Sherlock Holmes as something that he loved reading at a young age and Kate has chosen Little Grey Rabbit by Alison Uttley.
Rob: It was my Grandma’s weathered copies of Sherlock Holmes that truly hooked me as a reader. As a seven year old I devoured the stories one after another, quickly deciding that I wanted to be Sherlock Holmes when I grew up. I’m still hoping…
Kate: If I’m honest, I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love reading, so I can’t really say if the Little Grey Rabbit stories hooked me in specifically, but I do know that I used to be able to quote from them when I was very tiny, before I could actually read the words from the page, because my parents used to read them to me. “Mole, in his underground home, knew nothing of the storm…” I do remember that they were magical, sweet stories of animals and I still remember the excitement and enjoyment they brought me.
