Least favourite book by a favourite author: The Man With The Golden Gun and The Blood of Olympus #bookaday

June 4th sees us reveal our least favourite books by our favourite authors. Rob has picked The Man With The Golden Gun by Ian Fleming and Kate has gone for The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan.

Rob: Ian Fleming’s books have, for a long time, dominated my reading habits and The Man With The Golden Gun is easily the weakest in the series. In Fleming’s defence, it was published posthumously, eight months after his death. The publishers did pay Kingsley Amis for his thoughts and suggestions on how to improve the novel but they were never taken on board. Who knows what the end result could have been…

Kate: Perhaps it’s a little unfair of me to pick out The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan for this dubious honour. I’ve loved the Percy Jackson series, and the four Heroes of Olympus books that followed, fantastic rip-roaring adventures, romping through Greek and Roman mythology, indulging in brilliant action and great characterisation. The Blood of Olympus is the last book. The final one. I can’t even… What am I going to do without Percabeth? That’s not something that’s easy to forgive.
