For most of us, there are a few books we come back to and reread for comfort, familiarity or just for the sheer joy of experiencing something brilliant again. This time around, Kate has picked The Earthsea Quartet by Ursula K Le Guin and Rob chooses The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon.
Rob: After discovering it at university, I’ve returned to Michael Chabon’s Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay numerous times. It’s become a comfort read that retains its extraordinary depth and one that I would recommend to anyone and everyone.
Kate: I read these stories first after finishing The Lord of the Rings and finding myself hungry for more grown-up wizardry. I found them beautifully written, intelligently, philosophical, with an incredible emotional depth that you rarely find in mainstream fantasy. I come back to these again and again and never fail to find them wonderful.
