Happy Independence Day to our American readers! Kate and Rob pick their favourite (or should that be favorite?) US novels.
Rob: I’ve already selected this before but I just have to return to The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon. There is so much here that everyone will find something within its pages that will speak to them. Go out and get a copy today.
Kate: I was drawn to buy a copy of Snow Falling On Cedars by this rather beautiful Bloomsbury 21 cover and found inside an equally beautiful quintessentially American novel. There are simmering passions, a small town intrigue, barely contained prejudices, all held behind the appearance of freedom and propriety and an ultimate desire for knowledge and justice. And, of course, it’s a brilliant whodunnit.
