Most delicious novel about food: The Silence of the Lambs and Aphrodite #bookadayUK

Feeling hungry? Kate and Rob select their favourite novels about food. FYI – Rob cheats.

Rob: OK, so I cheated. I struggled through many choices, racking my brains to try to find a book, any book, that centres around food. What about eating? Nothing. Someone that eats something? Aha… In The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal Lecter sees everyone as a meal and very quickly becomes everyone’s favourite cannibal. It’ll also put you off your food.

Kate: Now for something a little bit saucy… Isabel Allende’s Aphrodite. Described as “a book Bacchus would have been proud of”, this is Allende’s exploration of the inescapable link in the human mind (and soul?) between food and sex. Perhaps surprisingly, I was recommended this by my mum but I’m glad because it’s a fascinating read, and a real eye-opener, although some of the recipes are a little…specialist!
