Podcast: The Adventures With Words Christmas Special 2016, part 2
December 26, 2016
Kate and special guests Simon, Gav and Darran are still on their quest to conquer Action Castle, guided by Rob (pardon me, the C64), with some bookish recommendation and occasional silliness along the way, but will they succeed? Part 2!
Kate, Simon, Gav and Darran continue to play the adventure with words ‘Action Castle’ (a ‘Parsley’ game, which you can find too at memento-mori.com), on the C64 (or Chilver-64) computer, attempting not to die in embarrassing ways as they go on a quest to see what awaits them. Of course, there’s some hilarity, a little unavoidable innuendo (apologies!), and they recommend some books along the way.
In no particular order, the books mentioned during the course of the adventure were…
The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry
The Trouble with Goats and Sheep by Joanna Cannon
See What I Have Done by Sara Schmidt
Seven Brief Lessons on Physics by Carlo Rovelli
His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman
Wing Jones by Katherine Webber
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
Universal: A Guide to the Cosmos by Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw
SPQR Mary Beard
Murder under the Christmas Tree: Ten Classic Crime Stories for the Festive Season
Closed Casket by Sophie Hannah
Mothering Sunday by Graham Swift
The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fisher
Mistletoe and Murder by Robin Stevens
Rebel of the Sands and Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton
