Dr Alex George at No.1!

Following an intensive pre-order social campaign, Dr Alex George’s Live Well Every Day rocketed to the no.1 spot of the paperback non-fiction charts! Working alongside our friends at Octopus, we planned and implemented a social media campaign for the book, including an Instagram read-a-long during publication week and also working with Dr Alex himself on key messages to put out through his own social media channels.

The campaign ran through Facebook and Instagram with optimised imagery and messaging throughout.

Jojo Moyes – Still Me Kindle heads to No.1!

We were thrilled to work with our friends from Michael Joseph on the Kindle Monthly Deal campaign for Jojo Moyes’ Still Me – securing a Kindle No. 1!

We ran a month-long social media campaign, directing readers and traffic to Amazon. At the same time we were tracking the Amazon sales rank on the hour, every hour, enabling us and the Michael Joseph to measure the effect of not only our own ads but also any other activity that they were running at the same time. It allowed us to see how traffic and ads affected the Amazon Sales rank, finding key moments to adjust the spends of the campaign accordingly.

The Authenticity Project

We are thrilled to have been a part of the marketing campaign for the paperback release of The Authenticity Project by Clare Pooley.

During the week of publication we recruited a group of Bookstagrammers to take part in a joint read-a-long together. Each day they read a number of chapters and were then posting their responses to questions or prompts that we sent them in advance.

The social assets were shared widely and we hosted a lively and fun discussion within our own Instagram group. As the campaign went on, further Bookstagrammers requested to join in, ensuring we got even further coverage for the book.

Upon its release, the book became a Top 20 paperback bestseller for Clare Pooley and Transworld.

Taking A Break

Hi everyone,

Just a quick word from Rob and Kate: with work commitments during the week and also planning our wedding in November, we’ve decided to take a break from the weekly podcast. We may well pop back if something catches our eye but for the moment we expect the podcast to return in 2019.

We’ll still be talking about books on Twitter and Goodreads and posting some blogs here on Adventures With Words.

A big thank you to all our listeners and we’ll be back soon!

Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend

Morrigan Crow is cursed. Having been born on Eventide, the unluckiest day for any child to be born, she’s blamed for all local misfortunes, from hailstorms to heart attacks–and, worst of all, the curse means that Morrigan is doomed to die at midnight on her eleventh birthday.
But as Morrigan awaits her fate, a strange and remarkable man named Jupiter North appears. Chased by black-smoke hounds and shadowy hunters on horseback, he whisks her away into the safety of a secret, magical city called Nevermoor.
It’s then that Morrigan discovers Jupiter has chosen her to contend for a place in the city’s most prestigious organization: the Wundrous Society. In order to join, she must compete in four difficult and dangerous trials against hundreds of other children, each boasting an extraordinary talent that sets them apart–an extraordinary talent that Morrigan insists she does not have. To stay in the safety of Nevermoor for good, Morrigan will need to find a way to pass the tests–or she’ll have to leave the city to confront her deadly fate. Review: Frogkisser! by Garth Nix

In Frogkisser! Garth Nix returns with his very own modern fairy tale, starring Princess Anya, who, with her loyal dog, must embark on a terribly important (capital Q) Quest to acquire the ingredients for a reversal lip balm, the vital item needed to change a frog back to a prince . . . oh, and save her kingdom from her villainous step(step)father. Review: Spellslinger by Sebastien de Castell

Sebastien de Castell make his YA debut with Spellslinger, published in the UK by Hot Key Books. Spellslinger, as de Castell mentions on the book’s Goodreads page, is the first in a planned six-part series. Existing fans will be pleased to hear it takes place in the same universe as his Greatcoats series, but in another part of that world, in a place that felt – to me – a bit like a combination of the very masculine Wild West and Classical or Middle Eastern magical mythology. Kellen, our main character, seems destined not to succeed as a powerful mage like his father, while his friends gain their magic and pass trials around him. However, he discovers something more sinister is afoot, and eventually uncovers a conspiracy that could destroy his family and homeland.
