#UKYAday – loved that? Read this!

I’m a big UKYA reader, but then I’ve had a lot of practise – nearly 20 years worth of eagerly devouring fantastic books written for young people. I was lucky to be that age which coincided with the first big wave of books for teens, laying the foundation for the amazing range being published now. So, I thought I’d use those now-classics to recommend some newer UKYA writers you might like to try, if you haven’t already… (more…)

Review: Our Lady of the Streets by Tom Pollock

Usually, I would start my reviews with the blurb from the back of the book. In this case, Our Lady of the Streets is the third part in The Skyscraper Throne trilogy. If you’ve not read parts 1 (The City’s Son – review here) or 2 (The Glass Republic – review here), the blurb will contain small spoilers that I don’t want to give away. However, please do go ahead and read my review of The City’s Son and then read the first two parts of the trilogy – they’re fantastic! And when Pen journeys through the mirror, she finds a world where scars make you beautiful and criminals will kill you for your face – a world in which Pen’s sister was keeping secrets of her own…

Review: The City’s Son by Tom Pollock

Hidden under the surface of everyday London is a city of monsters and miracles, where wild train spirits stampede over the tracks and glass-skinned dancers with glowing veins light the streets.
When a devastating betrayal drives her from her home, graffiti artist Beth Bradley stumbles into the secret city, where she finds Filius Viae, London’s ragged crown prince, just when he needs someone most.  An ancient enemy has returned to the darkness under St Paul’s Cathedral, bent on reigniting a centuries-old war, and Beth and Fil find themselves in a desperate race through a bizarre urban wonderland, searching for a way to save the city they both love.
